On Tuesday, November 20, 2001, Jerry sponsored a "Pre-Thanksgiving" Celebration in his hometown of Kinston, NC. The event was held at the St. Peters Disciples of Christ Church on JP Harrison Blvd at 6:00 pm. Thanksgiving dinners were then served buffet style by members of the church, and Jerry's family and friends to over a hundred less fortunate people.
Sources that promoted the event included: the Kinston Free Press, two local Kinston radio stations, G105 radio station, FoxSports.com, the Detroit Pistons’ official website (Pistons.com), UNC’s official athletic website (Tarheelblue.com), Goheels.com, the Salvation Army, the Department of Social Services for the Kinston area, Christopher’s Restaurant, and Friends of the Homeless (shelter in Kinston).
On Wednesday, November 21, 2001, Livis arranged for Jerry to be a guest on the G105 radio telethon called "Pennies From Heaven" to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation. While Jerry was on the air, G105 auctioned off a Detroit Pistons’ jersey, which he had autographed and sent in, for $1,000.00.
On November 30, 2001, Stack’s House provided tickets for 17 young men and 5 staff members from the Dobbs Youth Development Center to attend Stack’s game in Charlotte against the Hornets. The young men with the least number of demerits and best performance in designated subjects were chosen to attend the game. Jerry also provided each of the guys with one of his black fan club t-shirts with “Stack’s House” and #42 on them to wear at the game. Stack met each young man after the game, posed for photos with them, and gave them basketball cards and Detroit Pistons’ pens.
During Christmas of 2001, we donated various Nike items and some of Stack’s home sports items to a homeless shelter in Detroit.
On March 3, 2002, Stack’s House again provided tickets for 20 young men and 5 staff members from Dobbs to attend his game in Charlotte against the Hornets. The same methods were used to select the young men to attend the game as before. They all received fan club t-shirts and had a chance to meet with Stack after the game as well.
On Easter, Jerry provided 25 baskets full of candy, Nike gear, his basketball cards and miniature Pistons’ jerseys to the children of an organization in Michigan called PAL (The Detroit Police Athletic League).
The George and Minnie Stackhouse Scholarship was established at Kinston High School in May, 2002 in honor of Jerry’s parents to show his love and appreciation for all of their love and support. On May 17, 2002, Jameka Little and Michael Jenkins were selected as the first two winners of the George and Minnie Stackhouse Scholarship. Jameka was selected from Kinston High School’s women’s basketball team and went on to attend NC Central University while Michael was selected from the men’s team and went on to attend Fayetteville State University. The total amount of each scholarship was $4,000.00. Each recipient will collect $1,000.00 each year that they enroll in a college for a total of four years.
Stack joined fellow Tar Heel Alum Antawn Jamison in providing turkeys for the 2002 UNC Men’s basketball team to distribute to the Ronald McDonald House and IFC Shelter on Friday, November 22, 2002. UNC Coach Matt Doherty, the players and other members of the coaching staff signed autographs and gave out posters at each place.
On November 26, 2002, Stack sponsored his second annual Pre-Thanksgiving Celebration at the St. Peters’ Disciples of Christ Church in Kinston, NC. This event provided dinner for more than 150 less fortunate people in and around Kinston. Stack’s mother, Minnie and her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Lofton, prepared the feast. People came from shelters and street corners all over the city and were very happy that Stack and his family provided the feast for them.
Sources that promoted the event included: Channel 9 Television Station, the Kinston Free Press, two local Kinston radio stations, FoxSports.com, the Salvation Army, the Department of Social Services for the Kinston area, Christopher’s Restaurant, Kinston.com, and Friends of the Homeless (shelter in Kinston).

The Jerry Stackhouse Most Improved Student Awards Program was launched in November 2002 as an initiative to promote academic excellence in the Lenoir County Public School System, which he attended. Every nine weeks, High School and Middle School teachers from each of the core departments (Math, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies) are nominating five students from each grade level that make the most improvements in one or all three areas of classroom participation, classroom behavior, and academics.
The awards are meant to honor those students that may not make the Honor Roll but still work hard to improve their behavior and participation throughout the school year.

Stack and Pizza Hut are providing pizza parties at each participating school for those students chosen by their teachers to receive the award. Pizza Hut is providing all pizzas and drinks for the parties at a 50% discount rate.
Stack has become affiliated with many new charitable foundations (outside of those he helped with the Pistons and Wizards) by appointing 4ourFans, Inc. to respond to letters sent by them requesting autographed items for auctions and fund-raisers. During last season, we opened and cataloged 545 pieces of fan mail that he received from the Palace, his post office box and from his home.
Jerrystackhouse.com has been extremely successful since it was launched in November of 2001. The site’s traffic increased drastically during each month of the NBA season. As of Februrary 2005, the site has had over 5.5 million hits.
